Meyer Supports Street Books!

So very grateful at the news that the Meyer Memorial Trust will support Street Books with a $15k grant. Besides being a solid vote of confidence, this helps ensure that our program will continue to grow steadily, and to provide books to those who live outside or at the margins. Thanks, Meyer! Below you'll see our own Ben Hodgson, rocking the house at the Lit Hop reading last night. Ben's stories of his time as an "outdoorsman" have inspired and enlightened audiences ranging from students at Lewis & Clark College to kids at Southwest Charter.

Good News!

Street Books is ramping up for summer #5 (!), and we have good news to share: We are thrilled to announce that  Barb and Joel at Splendid Cycles have donated a shiny, new & fully built-up Bullitt cargo bike to Street Books, to help us expand our reach in the city, and keep our operation going, rain or shine. The talented Jeff Lauten at Badger Bikes will build us a beautiful, water-tight box.  Though we dearly love our first bike, (pictured below, with Street Librarian Redd Moon), we recognize the wisdom in having a second bike that is less creaky, and can go farther, faster. We are  so thankful for the donation. Street Books launches the summer shifts on June 2. Stay tuned for more details.

In the meantime, tune in to KBOO's Bike Show  this Wednesday (May 6), to hear an interview with Street Librarian Diana Rempe & Street Books board member & Inventory Specialist, Ben Hodgson. Ben is bound to work in a few bad puns.

Street Books + Sisters = Sweet Success

Thanks again to Sisters of the Road for hosting the 3rd annual Street Books book-giveaway and Valentine's party. Beth Chapman and Kris Soebroto baked 250 heart-shaped cookies in the oven at Sisters of the Road, and Beth frosted each one by hand! Check out Robert, one satisfied customer. Thanks to everyone who came by to contribute books or just say hello.

Street Books Celebrates with Sisters of the Road

Don't miss the 3rd annual Validation Day celebration at Sisters of the Road, on Friday, February 13, from 11-2 (133 NW 6th Avenue). As usual, Street Books will provide blank valentines and heart-shaped sugar cookies for diners. Bring your gently used paperbacks to donate (Street Books will help stock the Sisters library, and keep the rest). Hope to see you there!
