Street Books is Portland’s bicycle-powered mobile library, serving people who live outside since 2011. Our street librarians deliver books, reading glasses and other important supplies* to library patrons and engage in conversations about books and life. We also partner with over 25 community-based organizations and provide libraries and librarian services at their locations. Every bike and every box is carefully curated with a wide selection of books so our library patrons see their own interests and lives reflected in what we offer.

At the Street Books library, there are no fees or fines and no need for an ID or address.  Beyond the books and survival gear we provide, it's our deep relationships that allow us to build the community of care so essential for our city, and for our world. Knowing each other and each person’s unique story means helping to connect patrons to a motel voucher, referring them to an opening at a safe rest village, or offering an opportunity to recover a lost ID. We meet people where they are, literally, offering genuine connection and a community built on trust.

*including survival gear like tents, tarps, warm clothing, and flashlights, as well as Narcan, wound care supplies and hygiene kits
