Library Services

Street Books operates dozens of bike-based & place-based libraries and librarian services for people experiencing houselessness and/or living at the margins.

Our weekly bike-based library shifts transform the sidewalks and reclaim public space, providing an environment for folks to hang out, talk about books, and exist beyond just survival.

We partner with community-based organizations to provide curated bookshelves at their sites, enhancing their services and patrons’ access to books.

We meet people where they are, literally.

Several people in winter coats stand facing a cargo bike full of books.

Three people, one in a wheelchair, hang out around a cargo bike full of books.

Not just books:

Our librarians show up at the same places every week to provide consistent contact and create a caring community. We bring reading glasses, flashlights, notebooks, writing supplies, art supplies, puzzle books and more.
