Join us in making space for imagination and connection on our city’s streets!
“(At Street Books) we get to experience belonging, and what it could be like if we had a different world premised on different values.” –Karen Russell, National Book Award Finalist and Street Books Board member
We at Street Books believe that, to reimagine a society that allows everyone a dignified life, we must begin by nurturing our city’s imagination. This year we’re imagining alongside Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities: a book that questions what a city is, what it’s for. Street Books reaches across the many different Portlands to bridge gaps between housed and unhoused; between alienation and neighborly love. Every library shift is its own emotional city.
Street Books is celebrating 15 years of providing books, resources, advocacy and building community on the streets of Portland. We’re asking our friends to start a monthly, recurring donation or to consider a special gift to honor this milestone. If you are already a monthly sustainer, please consider increasing your gift to help sustain Street Books into the future. We have the goal of 80 new or increased monthly sustainers in 2025–will you help us reach our goal?
P.S. All donations in November and December will be matched 1:1 up to $10,000. A $100 gift automatically doubles to $200 in support to help us cultivate mutual relationships rooted in dignity and autonomy by showing up every week, year after year, in all kinds of weather, all around the city, to meet people where they are, literally.
